Boston’s RR
Auction is gearing up for its Pop Culture auction, and the roster
of goods up for grabs belonged to celebs including the late music legends Prince and Tupac
Shakur, as well as comedian Stephen
Colbert and pop icon Britney
Spears.
Starting Aug. 10
and through Aug. 17, you can throw down cash for hot-ticket items, starting
with Tupac’s personal Hummer H1.
This beast of a
car is back on the market after a previous bidder defaulted on payment. The
late rapper’s vehicle — purchased on Aug. 16, 1996, less than a month before he
was fatally shot in Las Vegas — was customized with features you could only
expect from a true OG, like a 360-degree spotlight, diamond-plate bumpers and
an external PA system with three sirens. It’s a surefire way to have all eyes
on you.
With the Hummer,
the highest bidder will also get two copies of its registration, which lists
Tupac as the original owner, as well as a copy of the affidavit for transfer
that reads, “Tupac A. Shakur, the owner of the above described vehicle or
vessel died on September 13, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada,” and lists his mother, Afeni Shakur, as the vehicle’s successor.
If you prefer
Prince over Tupac, you can also snag a page of unpublished, unused lyrics handwritten
by the symbolic — ahem — artist himself. Because the lyrics are scrawled out in
Prince’s hand, you can see where he nixed several words, making revisions or
crossing them out altogether.
Another item in
RR’s Pop Culture auction: Britney’s green umbrella from her infamous meltdown
in 2007. With a shaved head, Spears used the umbrella to take swings at a
paparazzo’s car. Ah, the glory days of celebrity gossip!
Besides all of
the musician memorabilia, RR Auction is also putting the desk where Colbert interviewed
guests for three seasons of his late-night, satirical news show, “The Colbert
Report.”
The desk, an
espresso brown table from Crate &
Barrel boasting marks made by Colbert, was used between January 2010
and December 2012. During that time, more than 400 guests — including Elon Musk, Charlize
Theron and Tom Hanks —
sat opposite Colbert at the table.
The lucky
somebody who lands the desk will also get a four-page list of all of the guests
who sat there. On the last page, you’ll find the signature: “It’s all true!
Stephen Colbert.”
