Fine Autographs and Artifacts Auction features incredible Sleeping Beauty items

This month is quite a busy one for RR Auction as they are currently hosting two Autographs and Artifacts auctions, one focused on Science and Technology and the other one featuring over 125 animation lots. Both of the auctions have started on May 19 and will end on June 14. This means that collector still have pretty good chances to get their hands on one of the amazing items featured in these lots.

Going back to the Animation Auction, it seems like RR Auction has managed to put together one of the most breathtaking collections of this kind, with rare and even unique items that are abound to catch the eye of anyone interested in the genre. For instance, the lot contains at least three collectibles related to the animation Sleeping Beauty.

One of the most valuable items in the collection is an Eyvind Earle concept painting from Sleeping Beauty, which was estimated at over $15,000. This original painting features Maleficent in her fire – breathing dragon form, as she flies over the dark castle scorching everything in her path. The 24.5X10 inch painting is made in tempera and carries the signature of the artist in the lower right corner. The fact that it is in fine condition and that it perfectly captures the spirit of the character makes it one of the most sought – after items in the lot.

One other Sleeping Beauty related item is a second Eyvind Earle concept painting that was estimated at over $9,000. The Walt Disney Studios painting, dated somewhere in 1959 shows Maleficent on one of her castle’s towers just before she turns into a fire – breathing dragon. The background also features Sleeping Beauty’s castle, far less dark and mystical. This painting is also made in tempera and it has the artist’s signature in the lower right corner. It is considered to be among the best depictions of Maleficent as it perfectly captures the spirit of this character and somehow foreshadows the plot by having Sleeping Beauty’s castle in the background.

The good news for collectors is that the Fine Autographs and Artifacts auction contains plenty of other items that are equally impressive: anything from Disney memorabilia, to Walt Disney autographs and various production cels and paintings depicting some of the most loved animation characters in history. Anyone interested in placing a bid is more than welcome to browse the online catalogue or to visit RR Auction’s webpage or social media!
